Be Coming - Jane Burn

For her second exhibition with the gallery and first solo presentation, Waiheke Island ceramicist Jane Burn unveils a new body of work shaped by decades of dedication to her practice.

Burn's artistic foundations were formed during her time in Japan in the 1990s, studying under a master ceramicist associated with Kyushu University. These formative experiences continue to inform her philosophy, approach to making, and deep connection to clay.

Renowned for her finely coiled and hand-built forms, Burn creates elegant vessels distinguished by their delicate walls, subtle textures, and organic silhouettes. Drawing inspiration from both the Japanese aesthetic traditions that shaped her early practice and the landscape of Waiheke Island, her works embody a quiet balance of strength, sensitivity, and place.

This latest collection reflects an artist working with confidence, clarity, and a profound connection to place. We are delighted to present Jane Burn's first solo exhibition with the gallery and share this remarkable new body of work with our audience.

Statement

'Be Coming’ - These strong forms conceal the time and patience of coiling to create. Inspired by my family over this time that is quietly growing, I wanted to create strong individual pieces that feel grounded standing alone and harmonious in a group reflecting the beauty of simplicity.

Bio:
Jane Burn is a ceramic artist living and working on Waiheke Island.

After being introduced to ceramics while resident in a one year Mombusho Scholarship at Miyadai University, JAPAN,  Jane went on to complete a Diploma in Ceramics in 2018.
Jane has continued her passion working in clay and will often use local resources from Island where she lives in her creative process. 
The slow process of hand-building and experimentation into form and texture is what inspires her making, each crafted form unique & intuitive.
