Iza Lozano
– Apotropaic
In Apotropaic, Iza Lozano presents a series of ceramic objects conceived from her interest in archaic and contemporary ritual practices, Mesoamerican archaeology, and geological formations, reimagined through an intuitive, material lens. Rather than replicating historical or natural forms, Lozano filters them through a dreamlike, speculative gaze.
The exhibition brings together vessels, pillars, amulets, and abstract forms that emerge as symbolic artifacts. Working with clay and found/archived materials, Lozano emphasizes volume and shape through the expressiveness of spontaneous hand gestures and a mineral medium—metallic oxides, bone ash, black sand, melted glass, and rocks.
Apotropaic invites us into an atmosphere where objects serve as portals and ceramics become a sensorial technology to activate memory and fiction.
