Conversations of Objects, Memories and place
17th Jul - 3rd Aug 2025
A collaborative body of work forged from friendship and conversation during a trip to the city of Florence. We walked and talked, sharing memories of earlier visits to our favourite city.
This time as makers we were looking with a different eye, both of us drawn to the textures and ancient patinas of the city streets - the marks of time.
The city gifted us everything we needed for this collaboration. Collectively the work explores surface fragility - carving, scratching and piercing the surfaces of our core materials: metal and clay.
This is a reflection of the synergy of our practices, the exploration and expression of our conversations, of what we saw and importantly, what we felt.
Artists:
Fiona Mackay is a ceramicist, who originally studied and worked as a furniture designer. She uses her design background and aesthetic to explore a broad range of ceramics, from functional stoneware, to larger more sculptural works. Her work is very process driven, with a focus on exploring texture, mark making and various hand building techniques.
Lucinda Barrett is an artist and maker. Throughout her career she has worked in a number of different mediums, at the moment her focus is on making in metal. Inspired by symbolism in art and culture, Lucinda’s designs are guided by meaning, narrative and intention.
