Collection: Natsumi Kobayashi

Natsumi Kobayashi makes serene prints using plates based on lithographs, most of which are one-off monoprints due to the fragility of her original screens. Kobayashi's works demonstrate a return to the basic act of "seeing".
She uses landscapes such as distant coasts and adjacent grass and stones, these natural elements becoming her motifs and inspirations. She starts with this realism to then create abstract images of them in her mind. She then combines abstract images of objects near and far, inside and outside, to illustrate not just "things" but the very act of "seeing things".
Her works are composed of simple lines and surfaces with subdued colours to create a tranquil image that naturally draws the eye and highlights the strength encapsulated in the object's essence, encouraging the viewer to engage in deep dialogue with the piece.
Kobayashi's creations embody her deep insight into "the act of seeing the world" with youthful excitement.
