Artist and weaver specialising in Harakeke raranga, based in Hokianga, in the northern part of New Zealand, she lives and works surrounded by the region’s stunning natural beauty.

Tira carefully prepares all her materials, hand-dyes them, and weaves each piece with intention.

She explains that creating a Kākahu (cloak) requires many intricate techniques. The pieces she has selected for Public Record reflect this craftsmanship. Her vision is to weave a Kākahu for each of the stars named in Matariki.

These Tauira (samplers) serve as both preparation and learning pieces for her Matariki Kākahu collection.
