Yueh’s practice explores the quiet tension between spontaneity and control.

Working primarily with clay, she creates sculptural forms that draw on texture,

curvature, line and negative space. Her forms are often understated, offering a

restrained presence that invites closer attention.

Her making process often begins with an openness, without much planning,

expectation or clear idea of the finished piece. This approach allows her to

celebrate and share the accidental moments that occur in a maker’s life. Each

work is developed through deep attention and careful refinement. Surface

treatment in particular is a meticulous and layered process, and every step is

highly deliberate.

 Her extensive glaze research and knowledge of materials

underpin this aspect of her practice, allowing for surfaces that are both subtle

and complex. Though her objects may appear minimal, they carry a depth of

consideration in both form and finish.

Yueh’s forms are not made to dominate. Instead, they operate with a gentle

presence, serving, holding and complementing the objects or space around

them. Her work speaks to a sense of serene melancholy and the strange beauty

found in simplicity and the overlooked. Each piece stands as a quiet monument

to moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed.

Her work has been exhibited in numerous group exhibitions throughout Aotearoa.

Yueh received the Merit Award at the Portage Ceramic Awards in 2023 and the

Premier Award at Fire & Clay.
