Good as Gold: North Park
Good as Gold: North Park
Born out of the Great Depression, North Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania opened in 1927 with a game preserve of bison, a Blackfeet Nation family to care for them, a fountain of youth, and the largest swimming pool in the world that could accommodate 5000 swimmers.
Her early memories of North Park are not of bison or swimming pools, but of snowy winter days as my family would ride atop a wooden toboggan and slide down frosty, white slopes, sweeping past pine boughs laden with icy flakes.
Collagraph printing:
Collagraph printing is a really versatile printing process in which a textured plate is inked up and put through a press. Once the image is complete, ink is conventionally rolled onto the surface; in this instance, black iron sand from Kāwhia Harbour is mixed with the ink. Thai kozo paper is placed over the inked block, then pressed with a spoon to transfer the ink from block to paper to create the image. After drying, the Thai kozo print is adhered to Fabriano paper, using the chine collé method. Jennifer's one-off work.
