조각보 (jogakbo) is a style of traditional Korean patchwork used to create domestic wrapping cloths (bojagi), or hanging screens from scraps of left-over fabrics. Historically textiles were extremely precious and costly so any remnants were saved and used to create a jogakbo.
Traditionally jogakbo would be made from hemp, cotton, silk or ramie (a plant fibre from the nettle family native to eastern Asia). Ramie is one of the oldest textile fibres and was worn in Korean Summer as it was said to 'have wind woven into it'.
This piece was made with scraps of cotton and linen, these materials are given or collected by the artist over many years, He saved these scraps from his studio. This patchwork acts as a record of his various sewing projects the material was given or collecting in the meantime. It's beautifully constructed, the seams become are details that you could enjoy the piece from front or back.
These partition is also have a cultural reference and belief that they can keep the good wisdom, good luck in the space.
